
APPLY FOR CHINA TRAVEL PERMIT
Who Can Apply
1) Emergency Travel Document
Chinese citizens who need to return to China urgently and cannot wait for a new passport because their Chinese passport is expired, lost, stolen, or damaged.
2) First-Time Travel Document for Children Under 16
Children who are considered Chinese citizens and have never held a Chinese passport or travel document should apply if they fall into these situations:

Born in the U.S. to two Chinese citizen parents, and neither parent had U.S. or other foreign permanent residency (such as a Green Card) at the time of birth.

Born in the U.S. to one Chinese citizen parent and one foreign parent, and the Chinese parent did not have U.S. or other foreign permanent residency at the time of birth.

Born in China to one Chinese citizen parent and one U.S. citizen parent.
3) Travel Document Renewal
You may renew your travel document if:

Your current travel document has expired, or
-
Your current travel document has less than 6 months left.
4) Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Residents
Residents of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan may apply if they meet the required conditions.

Starting from June 7, 2021, applications must be submitted online through the Chinese Consular Services App, and processed using a two-way mail service.
Based on each applicant’s situation,online submission requires different documents, please contact us for details. The materials listed below are generally required, but additional documents may be requested by the consulate during the application process.

Proof of long-term residential address: driver’s license or ID showing the name and address of the applicant or the minor’s guardian, or utility bills (water, electricity, gas, internet, trash), or bank statements

Chinese ID card (front and back), if available

Name, phone number, and residential address of one contact person in China

Most recent entry/exit stamp

ID photos (We provide photo service: 1 electronic photo and 2 printed photos)

On the day of application, purchase a San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper with the current date from a gas station. Hold the newspaper in front of your chest and take a half-body photo in front of a Postal Office. The photo must clearly show the newspaper’s name and date, and the background must include the San Diego Postal Office sign.

Do not discard the newspaper. Take a clear photo of the front page or bring the newspaper to our office

Additional documents required for applicants under 16 years old:
a. Child’s birth certificate
b. Parents’ marriage certificate and ID cards (if available)
c. Parents’ current valid passports and Green Cards (front and back), if applicable
